Administrative Assistant for the Tri-Town Veterans' Services Offices :

The Towns of Mattapoisett, Marion and Rochester are seeking applicants for an Administrative Assistant in the Tri-Town Veterans' Services Office.

This position performs detailed bookkeeping, accounting, and technical duties in order to oversee and track monthly payments to veterans and/or dependents utilizing Massachusetts Chapter 115 benefits . Detailed accounting is provided to the State of Massachusetts to ensure benefits are authorized by the state and reimbursed to the town. This position assists the Veterans' Services Officer {VSO) with financial management as well as establishing schedules, answering phone calls, and organizing one on one meetings with veteran/dependent clients. The Administrative Assistant is required to exercise independent judgment in administering and conducting their duties in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, under the direction of the VSO. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving efficiency and effectiveness.

The chosen candidate will provide comprehensive professional veteran services to Town Veterans and their dependents in compliance with, but not limited to State laws and regulations, including MGL Ch.  115. 

Exercise a high degree of discretion, responsibility, and decision-making in the daily administration and management of the department by applying a prescribed comprehensive program of public assistance and services to veterans and/or dependents.

This position also requires both general and specific knowledge of most major health care plans including but not limited to: VA, Mass Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield as well as numerous prescription plans.

The candidate will work closely with the Veterans' Service Officer. Instructions for new assignments or special projects usually consist of statements of desired objectives, deadlines, and priorities.

Technical and policy problems or changes in procedures are discussed with the VSO. The candidate will have access to confidential information and will be required to follow all relevant rules and regulations regarding confidentiality.

The successful candidate shall have at minimum a High School Diploma and at least three to five years' related experience, or a combination of training and experience commensurate with such education and experience. Candidates with comparable experience are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements Minimum physical effort is required to perform functions under typical office conditions. May be required to lift objects such as files, boxes of papers, office supplies, and office equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, listen and use hands to operate office equipment. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and complex documents.

The prospective employee must successfully complete a CORI {Criminal Offender Records Inquiry) and a physical  examination,  including a drug  screening.

This is a part-time non-union position, 19 hours/week, with a starting salary of  $22.50/hour.
